somatic practices for being here

My journey into the world of somatics has been a rich one. After doing my first of many somatic trainings and working with a somatic practitioner, I’ve felt so many knots within me — physical, mental, emotional and energetic — begin to loosen and even dissipate.

I wholeheartedly believe in the power of this work and feel grateful for these tools. And when life feels untethered, we most need to return to the wisdom of your body. I thought I’d share a few simple ones that are helping me ground during these wild times.

Here are three gentle ways to root yourself in presence:

Breath of Stillness
Draw air deep into your being.
Inhale for 4 counts, inviting calm.
Hold for 7 counts, savoring the pause.
Exhale for 8 counts, releasing what no longer serves.
Repeat until you feel the earth steady beneath you.

Sense and See
Open your eyes.
Gaze slowly around you.
Name five things you see.
Notice colors, textures, sounds, smells — each a doorway back to now.

Rooted Feet
Feel the ground beneath your feet
Imagine roots unfurling deep into the soil.
Sway gently, rediscovering your connection to the earth.

Try these on and see if any of them land for you.
