What is somatic work anyway?
It’s a question I get a lot. And honestly, one I return to over and over again myself. Defining and understanding things our way is important.
Somatic work is about coming home — to your body, your breath, your felt experience in the here and now. It’s the practice of noticing what’s happening within, instead of constantly outsourcing your attention to what’s happening out there.
It’s nervous system regulation. It’s unwinding old patterns. It’s feeling safe enough to feel.
Sometimes it looks like breathwork or movement or journaling. Other times it’s lying on the floor with your hand on your heart, simply being with yourself.
Somatic work isn’t about fixing.
It’s about deep listening.
And one of my favorite definitions of embodiment fits here too — deeply present for direct experience.
I love this journey and know it’s one that will continue for the rest of my life.
